How a search runs with Rotana

Every search follows the same five stages, whether the hire sits in Dubai or works remotely from Cape Town. You always know what stage we are at and what we need from you.

Brief call and role scorecard

We start with a 30-minute call about the role and what the person must achieve. From that conversation we write a short scorecard: the outcomes for the first six months, the skills that matter, the package range and the deal-breakers.

You approve the scorecard before we contact anyone. It keeps the search honest, because every candidate is measured against the same written standard.

Sourcing candidates in the UAE and overseas

We search active candidates and approach people who are not looking but fit the brief well. For local roles we search across all seven emirates and among relocating candidates; for remote roles we search in the Philippines and South Africa.

You get a short update each week with the number of people approached, interested and in screening, so you can see the search moving.

Screening and reference checks

Each candidate has a structured interview against your scorecard. Where the role allows, they also sit a practical test, such as a reconciliation exercise for an accountant or a coding task for a developer.

We check two references with former managers, confirm licences and registrations where the role needs them, and confirm notice period, visa status and salary expectations before anyone reaches your shortlist.

  • Structured interview against the approved scorecard
  • Skills test or work sample where relevant
  • Two manager references
  • Licence, registration and certificate checks
  • Notice, visa status and package confirmed

Shortlist and interviews

You receive a shortlist, usually three to five people, with our interview notes, test results and references for each. We arrange your interviews in person or by video and collect feedback from both sides within a day.

If the shortlist misses the mark, we would rather adjust the scorecard together than send you more of the wrong profile.

Offer, start date and follow-up

We help you put together an offer the candidate will accept, handle the conversation about notice and start date, and prepare the candidate documents your PRO needs for a local hire.

After the start date we check in with you and the new hire during the first weeks and again before the end of probation. Small problems found early are usually easy to fix.

Questions employers ask

How quickly will we see a shortlist?

For most roles, within two to three weeks of the brief call. Specialist or senior roles can take longer, and we tell you at the start if we expect that.

What do you need from us to start?

A 30-minute brief call, a job description if you have one, the package range and the names of the people who will interview. We write the scorecard from there.

Do you stay involved after the person starts?

Yes. We check in during the first weeks and before the probation period ends, with both you and the new hire.

Is the process different for remote hires?

The stages are the same. Remote screening adds an English assessment and a check of the candidate's workspace and internet set-up, and there is no visa step.
